AURIfil Designer of the Month and More!
11.12.11
Life has been a little hectic around here recently! Two weeks ago I was in Houston, TX for International Quilt Market. Sarah Vedeler Designs was featured in the Brewer booth, showcasing my newest design, “Jazzilicious”!
Here’s the full view of the quilt, 64″ diameter:
And the pillows, 30″x30″:
Jazzilicious uses my 2 new dies from AccuQuilt, Heather Feather 1 and Heather Feather 2:
Just in case you’re wondering, these two dies go with the new Jazzilicious designs and the existing Heather Feather designs!
Both CDs can be purchased here:
Last weekend (actually it was Friday), I went back to Houston to spend a day in The Quilt Show booth at International Quilt Festival! Earlier this year, Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson (hosts of The Quilt Show) called and asked me if I would design a quilt to be the 2012 Block of the Month Quilt offered to all Quilt Show members. This is not an offer to turn down, and this is the result:
There will be a lot more news about this quilt in the coming months, but if you’d like to join in and make your own, become a member of The Quilt Show (if you aren’t already)! You can sign up here.
Hopefully you haven’t forgotten about the AURIfil Designer of the Month! Should I confess that I did forget all about announcing the October winner and introducing the November designer? Please don’t tell Alex and Pat about that slip of memory!!!
In October you were introduced to Marianne Byrne-Goarin, AURIfil’s queen of AURIfil Lana, and asked to answer the following question:
What weight is Marianne’s favorite thread, AURIfil Lana?
The correct answer is 12 wt.
And the winner is:
Sally King!
Just goes to show, if you enter every month, you may win again and again! Sally also won in September – it really is a name drawn out of a hat!
Now for the November Designer of the Month! I’d like to introduce you to:
Jacquelynne Steves
from The Noble Wife.
Read all about Jacquelynne here, and then answer the following question:
What color of AURIfil 50wt thread was used to embroider the designs for Jacquelynne’s new pattern, A Beautiful Day?
Leave your answer in a comment for this post.
Check out Jacqueline’s project here.
Until next time!

Gorgeous quilt – so bright & cheery – she use #2360 for the designs.
Aurifil #2360 thread is the answer. I just found your blog. It’s fascinating. The 2012 Block of the Month Quilt is gorgeous. I came here via http://thatcrazyquiltygirl.blogspot.com. She did the browns palette version of your design. I found her by accident. Now you’re both on my favorites list. I hope you have a great month.
We used Aurifil #2360 (50 wt) to embroider the designs and it came out beautifully!
Thanks for the introduction to Jacquelynne. I love the designs and She uses #2360 (50 wt) for the embroidery designs. I’m anxious to try her patterns.
Jacquelynne Steves’ used Aurifil #2360 (50 wt) for the embroidery designs on her quilt titled A Beautiful Day.
It is a beautiful piece, just as your quilts are beautiful. Thanks for the chance in the giveaway.

Aurifil “2360 50 wt. thread was used in Jacquelynne’s ” A Beautifil Day quilt. I love her redwork designs.

Jacquelynne’s “A Beautiful Day” new quilt pattern uses Aurifil 2360 in 50 wt. to embroider the designs….and it is gorgeous!
Aurifil #2360 was the thread used on “A Beautiful Day” quilt. Thanks!!!
If you don’t own an AccuQuilt will the “Jazzilicious” design stitch out the shapes onto your fabric so you can cut on the line? that way you don’t have to trace each shape? Does that make sense? Absolutely beautiful!
Kari – you can do it like that, although it is a lot faster and easier (in my opinion!) to trace the shapes and cut them out before going anywhere near the hoop. If you trace and cut you can do it all in one shot while watching a good movie. Or while the machine is stitching. If you cut around the stitching line in the hoop, you can only do one hoop at a time while the machine is doing nothing – and you need to get pretty close to the stitching line to make sure the raw edge of the fabric is covered. If you do go ahead and cut in the hoop, stitch the applique placement line to show you where to place the fabric, and then stitch it again as the tackdown line. I hope this helps! Sarah
That does make sense! (I’m an embroidery newbie, just got my 830 last month – I haven’t even opened the embroidery module yet!) One last question, does your in the hoop applique use fusible?
Kari – yes! However you cut the shapes, using fusible webbing (Shades Softfuse is my favorite) will keep the edges crisp and well defined.
